In the middle of the city of Husum is Husum Castle or "Castle before Husum". It was built from 1577 to 1582. In the castle museum, the former royal representation halls, the castle chapel and other rooms, including the painting collection, can be visited. In 2008, the Duchess Garden was also opened. The approximately five-hectare castle park of Husum Castle is a famous sight. It contains many monuments, but also ponds, seating areas and playgrounds. Especially in spring, the castle park attracts many visitors due to the Husum crocus bloom, because then about 5 million crocuses grow like a purple carpet on the meadows of the green area. With this magnificent sea of colors, one wonders why Husum is known as the gray city by the sea.
